Our athletic programs emphasize positive coaching methods and create an encouraging environment for kids to learn, develop their skills, and have fun, whether they’ve been playing for years or are trying the sport for the first time. Our coach training and curriculum are drawn from nationally recognized and respected organizations leading the field of positive coaching techniques and youth development. We believe in developing the whole athlete and encouraging physical literacy from a young age to set ALL kids up for a lifetime love of sports and healthy lifestyles! We offer sports every season of the academic year:
Fall: Volleyball & Flag Football
Winter: Basketball
Spring: Volleyball & Baseball
Summer: Occasional Sports Camps
As a volunteer coach for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Whatcom County, you'll be a positive role model for youth, inspiring them to be the best versions of themselves through hard work and good sportsmanship. Even if you don't have coaching experience, we have the resources and training available to ensure you have a successful season. Become a coach today:
Step One: Submit an Application
Volunteers must complete a volunteer application. Applications can be emailed to sthurlow@whatcomclubs.org, or mailed/dropped off at 1715 Kentucky St, Bellingham, WA 98229. We always have printed copies available at the Bellingham Clubhouse.
Step Two: Background Check
Our children’s safety at the Clubs is our number one priority; therefore, every coach is required to pass a background check before being approved to volunteer.
Step Three: New Coach Orientation
After successfully passing a background check, you will meet with the Athletic Director to prepare you to become a successful coach. This includes all the information you will need for the upcoming season, along with coaching resources, support with practice planning, and answers to any questions.
