Our Story

Boys & Girls Clubs of Whatcom County was founded in 1946 with the mission of “enabling all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.” In our 80+ year history, we have become Whatcom County's premier provider of affordable after-school youth services.

When the school bell rings, four blue doors open at our Clubhouses across the county to provide safe, positive environments for young people.  We welcome youth from their first day of kindergarten through age 18. We proudly operate facilities in Bellingham, Blaine, Ferndale, and Lynden.

Across our programs, we create opportunities for young people to discover their strengths, develop new skills, and build lasting connections. Because Great Futures Start Here.

Our Mission

To inspire & enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, responsible, and caring community members.

Our Vision

Through relentless pursuit, BGCWC/GFELC aims to be the largest, most equitable provider of youth development programs in Whatcom County and to be known as ambassadors for youth, offering programs that educate and inspire purpose and healthy connections in a fun, safe space.

More Than After-School Care

Our work extends beyond the after-school hours. Three Early Learning Centers provide care and early learning opportunities for children from infancy through age 10. During the academic year, we also offer four youth sports programs that give young people opportunities to stay active and learn important skills like teamwork and good sportsmanship.
